Nokia drooling to bite Apple’s Pie

by anirudhasher on Oct.25, 2009, under Techno Logical

Earlier this week, Nokia released a press release stating that they were suing apple over patent infringements. Elsewhere freedom fairies and apple fanboys were feverishly slitting their wrists in bathtubs. Even though this specific piece of corporate news stunned half the world, experts emerged claiming that such lawsuits happen all the time, the only problem here being that Apple is not just a fruit company and neither is Nokia just a $1000 AUD shrimping outfit based off an obscure beach in Finland. We’re talking about world domination here! Anyone who watched The Dark Knight would agree on the fact that whichever company has their products in the hands of every man, woman and child, has control over the world and subsequently its economy.

The press release which can be found here, mentions that iPhone infringes on GSM, UMTS and WLAN standards. Even though detailed information is not available, from whatever information is available, we know this: “The patents cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007.” So the question arises, why would Nokia wait three full years before attempting to juice Apple for what it’s worth? One could hardly believe that it takes three years to file for a lawsuit regarding patent infringements. Surely not in the same country where major hostile takeovers are committed at a rate of atleast 4-5 a year!

Come on Nokia! Is this a desperate attempt at staying afloat or are you going the Motorola way? Are you’re CEO’s playing golf and sifting away (shrimp) boatloads of money away?  Hell even Motorola’s attempting to come back. Even though this should have been another story, it makes sense to mention here. Droiddoes.com is a website dedicated to dissing Apple’s iphone and everything iDoesn’t do. (Visit website to get a clearer idea, sniggers not included with this article)

Considering how Nokia may barely be competing in the super duper smartphone race, Nokia may not even be the choice of brand in cell phones for a majority of consumers in 2012, not even if the demographics include old people. (The author’s grandfather uses a Samsung, so I guess atleast we know Samsung will still be alive then)

What does this mean for consumers?

Nothing, absolutely nothing. As of now, we might just see that Apple may not release another model of their iPhone again for an extended period. The greatest outcome of this seemingly epic lawsuit will be to end up as case studies in business courses, or law courses in universities around the world. Coming back to the consumers, Apple’s products will still be operational and its softwares well updated many more years to come, the simple reason being that if Apple pulls the plug on their products, there will be a big backlash (Enron anyone?). Thus proving the point and rumours about that notorious bad apple.

Note: Anirudh Asher, the author of this article, uses an HTC Magic which runs Google’s operating system, Android and could not resist adding that bit about Motorola running Android to keep itself alive. It is a happy day in Google Fanboyville.

Apple’s Gravitational Eventuality

by anirudhasher on Jul.28, 2009, under Techno Logical

It is strange that the technological behemoth firm that brought us the sensational iPod, the powerhouse that is the  Macbook Pro and most importantly the greatest phone ever made (until a week ago), the iPhone should have the title of Apple.

From the range of earlier products from Apple Computers, like the Apple palmtop computer, also known as the “Newton”, it is easy to understand that the creators of this firm christened it after the famous now rotting apple that fell atop Isaac Newton’s head. As the story, which can now be considered a prophecy went something like this: the fruit that fell on Newton’s head sparked his genius to realise (not discover) gravity. Sadly enough the action that the apple chose to carry out was to “fall”. The same will be said of the computer company now.

THE Apple computers, recently scrapped an iPhone app allowing Google voice features. There is a variety reasons and contributors and reasons as reported by Lifehacker. In a short scrap, the iPhone despite having all the Gmail apps and maps, does not want a Google Voice application, apparently because it provides similar functions as the carrier’s services.

Consider this:

Technological liberties are more important than human rights, civil, military, religious, gender, sexual preference and the liberty to drink a strawberry flavoured Vodka in a state that does not allow alcohol. One might ask why, the answer is simple as it is plain, technology has more capability to change countries than guns and nuclear bombs do. Regardless of whether you are a Google, Apple, Nokia Microsoft or macrohard, if citizen journalism platforms like Twitter and facebook did not exist we would have had more innocent casualties in the Mumbai terrorist attacks, more jorunalists might have been killed in Iran.

Technology is freedom, and as Apple has clearly demonstrated even after the end of piratebay.org (RIP) that they can and will continue to be the evil force that gave rise to hopes and dreams but now only corrupts technologically motivated souls, for their own personal profit.

Free technology, boycott Apple, feed a hungry kids in a third world country some apples for a year with the money you would have spent on an Apple product.
